Your House Warming Wine Guide

You’ve just moved into your new house and you’re having your closest friends over to celebrate. You’ve found a recipe for a delicious meal, but you’re unsure about which wine to select. Look no further – we’ve got your party covered with this foolproof wine guide.

Here are some questions to ask before heading to the LCBO: How many guests will be drinking wine? Will you serve wine before dinner? What is your meal's main protein? Wine is known to enhance a meal and answering these questions will help you narrow down your selections.

Sparkling Wines
When guests start to arrive, hand out sparkling wine. They can be pale in colour, rosé or even red in some cases. For guests who don’t enjoy sparkling, serve a dry rosé. But for those who do, here are some great choices according to country:

Italy: Prosecco, Moscato, Franciacorta, Lambrusco
France: Champagne, Crémant, Pétillante
Spain: Cava

White Wines

White wine is a go-to for many. Traditionally, it’s is paired with fish, but you can branch out far beyond that. Sweeter wines pair nicely with spicier foods. Some great whites to consider are:

Chardonnay (*A medium Chardonnay is typically a crowd pleaser)
Pinot Grigio
Gewürztraminer
Riesling
Sauvignon Blanc

Red Wines

Traditionally, red wine is served with meat. Red wine comes in a variety of styles and some people tend to get overwhelmed by the large selection. So, here are a few great options:

Pinot Noir
Merlot
Cabernet Sauvignon (*A Cabernet Sauvignon is typically a crowd pleaser)
Petit Sirah
Grenache

And finally, are you serving dessert? With dessert, you could serve Port wine from Portugal, Icewine from Canada, or Passito from Italy. Add some berries for a final touch and your guests will be longing for your next dinner party.
