Well, it is official, your moving! Now whether you're moving into your first, second, fifth, or tenth house you always need a box for your first night, properly titled your First Night Box.

Your First Night Box is an assortment of supplies and necessities you will need on your first night in your new home. This box is designed to make your first night as comfortable as possible with everything you need to get through the next day or two. Without it, you might have to open every single box you’ve brought looking for a plate or a bar of soap. To help you get your First Night Box started, here is a list of things you should pack.

Cleaning Supplies

The first thing you need to do when moving into a new place is to clean everything! To do that you need to bring things like cleaning rags, paper towels, dish soap, gloves, trash bags, bleach, and Windex. It might also be a good idea to bring a broom and dustpan.

Food And Beverages

Before moving you probably made it a mission to eat most of the food in your fridge and pantry to avoid moving all of that food. But on your first night, it’s a good idea to bring food that is easy to make like soup, Kraft dinner, or an oven pizza. Keep it simple because whatever you decide to eat you will need to pack the dishware and cooking equipment necessary to enjoy it. You should also bring some type of celebratory drink with you to toast to the new place.

Clothing

Pack your pajamas, a change of clothing, and something else just in case. Your clothing might be the last thing you unpack so have spare outfits available.

Sleeping Essentials

Prior to your move, you need to organize your sleeping arrangements. Whether your sleeping on your mattress, an air mattress, the couch, or at a family member's, it’s important to know ahead of time. That way you can pack sheets, pillows, and blankets to still be cozy and comfortable on night one.

Bathroom Supplies

Remember to pack toilet paper, a hand towel, a bar of soap, your hairbrush, your toothbrush, and toothpaste! These are the five universal things needed to get anyone through their first night. Depending on your morning and evening needs consider adding extra things like cosmetics, a hairdryer, or other toiletry supplies.

Extras

You should also bring things like a tool kit, first aid kit, lightbulbs, flashlights, extra batteries, and even a shower curtain and bath mat. Small things like this will no doubt be scattered in boxes and it’s nice to have them available if needed.
