With the summer weather fast approaching, many people have begun envisioning their family spending time and making long-lasting memories away from home. Whether that be by a lake or in the middle of a secluded forest, there is a perfect recreational property awaiting you. Here is a couple of common myth vs. fact scenarios you may want to consider before taking the leap.

Myth: Cottages are best in the summer — and if you are not able to go then, you might as well not go.

Fact: Yes, the summertime offers the most sun and a lot of outdoor and water activities for you and your family. However, you can find enjoyment in many of the other seasons too. Lots of cottagers enjoy the spring and fall because they are quieter and often times more relaxing. Not to mention less traffic, fewer people on the lake, and (hopefully) fewer bugs!

Myth: Traffic reports must be exaggerated.

Fact: Unfortunately, you will need to give yourself extra time for travel, especially if you are looking to buy right in ‘cottage country.’ With many people having recreational properties, you are bound to face some type of stop-and-go traffic, especially if you plan to leave right at rush hour traffic.

Myth: Now is not a good time to buy.

Fact: There is no such thing. If you have done the necessary research and created a reasonable budget with a contingency plan, you are ready. You will always have people telling you that it is not a good time to buy. In fact, no one can predict the market – so now is as good a time as any. Express your worries to your real estate agent. It is their job to help guide you through this decision.
