Whether you are trying to impress potential buyers or just close friends and family members, you want your home to make an instant impression. In order to captivate them, you will need to improve the curb appeal of your home. This means more than just improving the front entryway or painting the exterior of the house. It involves maintaining the landscaping around your home.

Here are some landscaping tricks that will improve your home’s curb appeal and create that instant desirable impression.

1. Use Fertilizer

 1. Use Fertilizer

A green lawn is attractive. It shows others that you care for your grass and spend time maintaining your yard. Simply watering your grass is not enough. If you want a deep and healthy green colour, you need to use fertilizer. This provides the grass with the nutrients and minerals it needs to thrive and grow well. Make sure to use fertilizer according to its specific instructions and apply regularly throughout the warm summer months.

2. Lay Down Mulch

 2. Lay Down Mulch

Do you want your flower beds to look well maintained? One way to instantly improve these areas of your landscaping is to lay down fresh mulch. This type of material lays down on top of the soil in your flower beds. Not only does it improve the appearance of your gardens, but it also helps prevent weed growth.

3. Trim Trees, Bushes, Hedges, and More

 3. Trim Trees, Bushes, Hedges, and More

You should regularly trim your trees, bushes, hedges and shrubs. This one task not only helps with the growth of plants, but it also helps remove dead and damaged branches that inhibit growth in other areas. As you trim, be sure to pay attention to the building envelope of your home. If parts of the tree are blocking certain characteristics or features of your home such as large windows or street numbers, these may be areas you focus on first.

4. Add Pops of Colour Throughout Your Landscaping

 4. Add Pops of Colour Throughout Your Landscaping

Pops of colour can capture the eye and add contrast and dimension to your landscaping. Not only should you consider filling your flower beds with a variety of flowers, ornamental grasses, and ground coverings, but consider filling planter pots with unique flowers and plants as well. Even if you do not have much of a green thumb, there are many low maintenance flowers that are very forgiving. For example, consider marigolds, daylilies, petunias, and geraniums as they are all fairly hardy plants.

There are many things you can do to improve your landscaping and enhance your home’s curb appeal. By keeping the above four tricks in mind, your yard will be the envy of all your neighbours.
