When you showcase your home, you are making yourself vulnerable. Your home is where you keep all of your valuable possessions. It is vital that you safeguard your house during showings. Here are a few tips to help you resolve any security concerns you may have.

Small expensive items such as jewelry or electronics are easy to pick up. It would be easy for potential buyers to hide them in their purse or pockets without you ever knowing. To prevent this from happening, make sure you store small and valuable items out of sight in a secure location.

A few of the most important items that are susceptible to theft are:
During the viewings, make sure your real estate agent arranges for the buyer’s real estate agent to accompany viewers as the visit each room. Don’t give them space to get comfortable. Viewers are much less likely to steal and item when they know there is someone with them.

A slightly more complicated option would be to install a surveillance camera in different rooms throughout your home. This would allow you the ability to keep an eye on viewers. Be sure to leave a note or a sticker on the fridge to inform them that they are being watched.

3. Set Boundaries

When showing your home to strangers, it’s important to set certain boundaries to help protect yourself and your valuables. Ask your real estate agent to book appointments with potential viewers in advance, and gather their personal contact information before they step into your home.

While selling your home is the goal, it’s equally as important to protect it before you showcase it.
