With the days getting longer, the weather slowly getting warmer, and the snow starting to melt, it sounds like spring is here!

In the real estate world, the Spring market is heating up with an already busy January and February. While the 2020 market may have been pushed back, the 2021 market is right on schedule. If you are thinking about selling your home this spring, it's time to act fast. Here are a few tips to help get your home ready to sell.

1. Declutter

Over the Winter we find ourselves collecting items, whether it be because of the holidays or because we’re bored and go on a shopping spree. Either way the best way to prepare for the Spring market is to declutter every room of your house. Pictures, books, even extra furniture has got to go. Buyers want to see the bare minimum when looking at your house. They want to see the bones of the room and how their furniture might fit in.

2. Freshen Up Your House

Warmer days are slowly arriving! It’s time to open the windows and get the fresh breeze flowing through your house. Take some time as well to do a deep clean of your blinds, windows, drapes, and any other areas you may have neglected over the winter months. With brighter days ahead, buyers will be able to see every speck of dirt.

3. Make Minor Repairs

With the market hot like it is, don’t worry about large, expensive or time-consuming repairs or upgrades. Focus on the little things. Repaint a bedroom, add new handles to your kitchen cupboards or even install a new toilet. Little things can go a long way.

4. Curb Appeal

We are at that unfortunate time of year when the snow turns to grey and our lawns look a bit muddy. When it comes to curb appeal, you need to focus on what you can control, regardless of the melting snow or mud. Pick up fallen sticks, prune bushes and pick up any trash that the snow-covered up. If the snow is off your roof, you may want to investigate your eavestroughs and roof shingles.

5. Pick The Right Agent

Navigating the 2021 Spring market can be tricky, and you need to know your real estate agent has a plan to help your home stand out on the market. As we’ve experienced in February, buyers are highly competitive as many homes are receiving multiple offers. You need a real estate agent who can cut through the noise and present you with the best one that speaks to your needs. You also need an agent with a comprehensive marketing plan that will help reach the widest net of potential buyers possible and that shines a positive light on your home and property.
