When it comes to home renovations the first room that could probably use an update is the kitchen. Kitchens are the highest traffic room within your home and get used daily. It’s also the room that could make or break the sale of your house when it comes time to list. If you are thinking about adding the maximum value to your house start with your kitchen. Here are 6 renovations that will not only add value but will check all future home buyer boxes.

#1 Add An Island

If you have space we would highly recommend adding an island or a peninsula. In the kitchen the more counter space the better! An island or peninsula can also be purposed as a breakfast bar or extra storage.

When installing an island you need to ensure it is the right height for what you want it for. Speak to your kitchen designer for the perfect countertop height.

#2 Refresh Cabinets

Cabinets get opened multiple times every day, and usually get slammed shut. Needless to say, your cabinets could probably use some TLC. A fresh coat of paint might do the job but we would recommend speaking to a kitchen design company about replacing them or updating the handles.

#3 Swap Out Lighting

Hanging lights take kitchens to new heights with their stylish and modern styles. Place bright and clean-looking lights above your breakfast bar, island or table for function and visual appeal. Keep in mind the larger the surface the larger the light should be.

#4 Update Fixtures

A simple way to give your kitchen a fresh facelift is by updating your fixtures. Sinks and faucets are a staple in the kitchen and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Their unique styles are not only functional but can be very visually appealing. Go trendy with a mixed metal faucet, create contrast with a dark sink or go for a vintage touch with a farmhouse sink.

#5 Match Appliances

Before swapping out appliances ensure your current ones are no longer in good working order or are not energy efficient. If they are no longer working the way you need them to we would recommend purchasing new appliances at the end of the year when discounts run deep. But when you buy ensure they match. This will look visually appealing to onlookers and not a mismatched mess.

If your current appliances are working perfectly do not worry, you do not need to replace them. You can instead order new doors and panels for certain models.

#6 Add A Splashy Backsplash

A unique way to add character to your kitchen is by adding a splashy backsplash. Not only one that can be cleaned easily but one that ties the entire kitchen together. If you go colourful use a simple pattern and if you go monochromatic try something bold. In small kitchens, this could be a DIY project you can tackle yourself.

While kitchen renovations are very popular they can also be very expensive. Speak to your kitchen specialist about creating a budget and a blueprint of what you want and what you need. It is easy to get lost in the luxuries of custom cabinetry, high-end appliances and stone countertops.
